What Is An Ice Cream Float?

In America, an ice cream soda typically means ice cream served in a drink with syrup and soda water, while an ice cream float is served with some type of soft drink (usually root beer).

Who Invented the Ice Cream Float? The Ice Cream Float was invented by Robert McCay Green in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1874 during the Franklin Institute’s semicentennial celebration.
