Spread the love

Homemade pizza sauce with sauteed garlic in fragrant olive oil, sweet tomato sauce, and spicy parsley simmered to saucy perfection. Not only will your house smell wonderful but it is so good you must grab a crusty piece of bread and dredge it in the homemade pizza sauce, you just can’t wait! Ahem… yes, it is that good.

We’re Not Even Italian
OK, no we are not Italian, but Auntie Betty is Sicilian and Italian and makes her  homemade pizza sauce is a thing of legend and the best sauce we have ever had.  She is actually not our aunt but a friend of the family that gave us her pizza sauce recipe not to mention her permission to share it with our friends.  This needs no further introduction at all because it this pizza sauce will stand on its own.  So, get your homemade pizza dough going and get out your sauce pot. Our only advice, use a good quality tomato sauce and don’t burn or scald the garlic.  When the garlic smells very aromatic and is just a little golden, it is done, pour the tomato sauce over it otherwise it will ruin your pizza sauce.

Go to the pizza dough recipe link below and start your homemade pizza dough. If you are making the pizza dough in your bread maker on the dough cycle it will take about an hour and thirty minutes for that cycle. Meanwhile, you can get your homemade pizza sauce simmering.

Auntie Betty’s Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe

Preheat oven to 450 degrees

Supplies:

  • Sauce Pot
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Cheese Grater
  • Apron
  • Can Opener

Ingredients:

1-2 Tbsp of good quality olive oil

4-5 cloves of fresh garlic instead of using a press I prefer to chop my garlic for this sauce

A Large 29 oz. can of Hunt’s Tomato Sauce

Small can of Tomato Paste

1 Tbsp of Dry Parsley

1/4 cup or so of Grated Parmesan and Romano Cheese

Instructions:

First, you will chop your garlic and set it aside.

Put a tablespoon or so of good olive oil in your saucepan and turn it comparatively low.

Add to this 4-5 cloves of chopped garlic. Cook slowly while stirring until just fragrant and golden but not brown. If you overcook the garlic it will give your sauce a sharp taste that will ruin your sauce.

Next, add a can of tomato sauce and small tomato paste to your pot.

Stir well.

Finally, add your grated Romano cheese together with some Parmesan cheese to your pizza sauce and season with parsley flakes.

Time To Simmer

Cover and simmer the pizza sauce for at least 10 minutes as a result it will allow all of the flavors mingle as mom would always say and it will thicken your pizza sauce to perfection.

Pizza Sauce

  • 1-2 Tbsp of good quality olive oil
  • 4-5 cloves of fresh garlic chopped
  • 1 Large 29 oz. can of Hunt’s Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Small can of Tomato Paste
  • 1 Tbsp of Dry Parsley
  • 1/4 cup or so of Grated Parmesan and Romano Cheese
  1. First, put a tablespoon or so of good olive oil in your saucepan and turn it to low.
  2. Add to this 4-5 cloves of chopped garlic. Cook slowly while stirring until just fragrant and golden but not brown. If you overcook the garlic it will give your sauce a sharp taste that will ruin your sauce.
  3. Next, add a can of tomato sauce and small tomato paste to your pot. Stir well.
  4. Finally, add your grated Romano and Parmesan cheeses to your sauce and season with parsley flakes.
  5. Cover and simmer for at least 10 minutes to let your sauce mingle as mom would always say.

Meanwhile, turn out your pizza dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it out in the shape of your pan or pizza stone. Of course, this will change depending on if you are using a cookie sheet a pizza pan or stone. Add your homemade pizza sauce to the dough and other ingredients you like for your pizza.  Choose your favorite things like Romano Cheese, bacon, ham, olives, onion, Parmesan cheese, pepperoni, peppers, mozzarella cheese, etc. or try something new. Ultimately make it your own.

How To Cook

Then you will cook it for 20 to 25 minutes or until the crust is done. Use a spatula to lift the edge of the dough to see if it looks done under it. After it is done take it out of the oven and add your cheeses then put the pizza back in the oven for approximately 5 minutes until the cheese has melted.
