Delicious Caramel Pear Pie Recipe

We came up with this caramel pear pie after we harvested tons of pears from our orchard. It’s such a delicious combination of fall flavor!  This is an amazing dessert that the whole family will love.

What You Will Need To Make Caramel Pear Pie:

 

 

Caramel Pear Pie Filling:

  • 7  pears peeled (cored and sliced)
  • 1  cup raw sugar
  • 2 tablespoons  water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1  tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1  teaspoon  nutmeg
  • 3 Whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 3  tablespoons  cornstarch

Pie Crust:

1 1/4 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1/3 Cup cold grass-fed butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
3-5 Tablespoons of Water
1 egg beaten (for a wash)

Directions:

  1. In a medium-size bowl mix flour and salt until combined.
  2. Remove butter from the fridge and slice thinly. Add to flour mixture, using a butter cutter or knife work the butter into the flour until you only have small pea-sized pieces left.
  3. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time and kneed gently until dough forms a ball.
  4. Wrap dough in plastic wrap or place in a bag and place in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 to create a second pie crust.
  6. While the dough is chilling,  place sliced pears, water, apple pie spice, cinnamon stick, cloves, and lemon juice in a medium-sized pan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until pears are tender and translucent. Remove cinnamon sticks and cloves.
  7. Combine raw sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl. Pour over pears, and stir constantly until sauce thickens.
  8. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350F.
  10. While the caramel pear pie filling is resting, roll out one of your pie crust and place in a pie pan. Bake crust for 15 minutes.
  11. Roll out the second pie crust, using a leaf-shaped cookie cutter cut out the rest of the dough.
  12. When the pie crust is done, spoon the caramel pear pie filling into the crust. Place the leaves on top of the pie in a circular pattern.
  13. Beat an egg in a cup and brush over the leaves.
  14. Cover with foil and bake for 15 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes.
