Delicious pumpkin scones are great for every occasion (who doesn’t like a scone for breakfast?) and are so easy to make! These are perfect for your family or for when company comes. It makes more scones than our simple scone recipe too so it is great when you have a bigger crowd. You’ll be sure to be the most popular person at the office if you wrap these up for your co-workers too. Serve these with a yummy tea like Good Earth Sweet and Spicy Tea or a good cup of coffee. The Secret To Making Perfect Pumpkin Scones
The secret to making not just pumpkin scones but any scone is really cold butter. We place ours in the freezer until thoroughly frozen and then remove just when we are ready for it. Make sure you work quickly and limit the amount of time you are touching it so it doesn’t melt.
What You Will Need To Make Pumpkin Scones:
- Large Bowl
- Medium Sized Bowl
- Small Bowl
- Measuring Cups & Spoons
- Silicone Baking Mat
- Cookie Sheet
- Knife
- Hot Pan Holder
- Wire Cooling Rack
- Wisk
- Mixing Spoon
- Grater
Pumpkin Scones Recipe
Ingredients:
2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
1/3 Cup Raw Sugar
1 Teaspoon Non-Aluminum Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
3/4 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
3/4 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 Cup Frozen Butter
1/2 Cup Pumpkin Puree (Learn how to make your own pumpkin puree in this article)
1 Tablespoon Molasses
3 Tablespoon Cream
1 Large Free Range Egg
2 Teaspoons Real Vanilla Extract
Pumpkin Scones Glaze:
1 Cup Powdered Sugar
1 Tablespoon Pumpkin Puree
1/8 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/8 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
1-2 Tablespoons Cream
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 400.
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Grate frozen butter into the dry ingredients, mix until crumbly.
Whisk pumpkin, molasses, cream, egg, and vanilla together in a medium-size bowl.
Stir pumpkin mixture into dry ingredients and mix lightly.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead 3-4 times.
Pat the dough into a 10×7″ rectangle, cut in half lengthwise, and cut each half in alternating directions into triangles until all the dough has been cut. Each half will make 8.
Transfer scones onto a silicone mat covered cookie sheet.
Place pumpkin scones on the center rack of the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes.
While the scones are baking combine powder sugar, pumpkin, and seasonings in a bowl. Add cream and mix until combined.
When the scones have finished baking, dip the top of each one in the glaze. Place on a wire cooling rack to cure for several minutes.
