The Best Stuffed French Toast Recipe

Needing an easy breakfast that tastes amazing?  We have the perfect one! We love to make a stuffed French toast or pain perdu, it is super easy to make, and absolutely delicious (and mom-approved!). This is easy enough for any day but we like to make stuffed French toast for special occasions too it is so quick and easy to make, but it really is special.  

In France, they call French toast “pain perdu” which literally means “lost bread”.  It was a way for French women to use up the stale bread in the house so it would not go to waste (who wants bread to go to waste?) It was made of thick slices of baguettes and cooked to perfection. You can use any bread that you have on hand and if it is going stale or not.

Why Is It Called Pain Perdu?

Pain Perdu means lost bread. This was and still is the perfect way to reclaim bread that would otherwise be lost because it has become too stale to eat fresh.  

How Do You Make French Toast Not Soggy?

Make sure your griddle or pan is nice and hot before you dip your bread into the liquid.  Quickly dip one side and then remove it and dip the other. Do not let the bread sit in the egg mixture and put it directly on the heated griddle. This will keep your pain perdu / French toast from absorbing too much liquid and getting soggy. Cook the French toast until golden and flip to the other side.

Stuffed French Toast Recipe

Makes 1 Serving

Ingredients:

Cream Cheese

Jam or Jelly of your choice

2 slices of bread 

2 eggs beaten

Splash of heavy cream

A few drops of liquid vanilla Stevia or a bit of sugar

Powdered sugar for the topping.

Directions:

 
Heat a medium-size pan over medium heat.
Thickly slice your bread
Beat eggs in a plate or bowl big enough to dip the bread into, add the cream, and a couple of drops of Sweetleaf stevia.
Beat until combined.
Take two pieces of bread and spread on one cream cheese. Add a dollop of your favorite jam and put them cream cheese sides together.
When your pan is hotOnce the pan is hot, dip your bread into the egg mixture, and place it into the pan. Cook until golden on both sides.

  • Cream Cheese room temperature
  • Jam or Jelly of your choice
  • 2 slices of bread 
  • 2 eggs beaten
