This easy alternative for fabric softener is super simple, and totally natural plus it’s disinfecting. Not only does it make your laundry soft without using chemicals and fake fragrances it really helps to make your towels more absorbent.
We’re all about natural and clean products here at Rosevine Cottage so this one simple ingredient fits the bill perfectly!
1st Alternative For Fabric Softener
Vinegar Fabric Softener
1/4 cup of vinegar
3-4 drops of essential oil of your choice
Add to your load of laundry as you would a traditional fabric softener. This will also help to lock in the color of your clothing so they do not fade on one another if you sometimes have a habit of not separating your laundry and making your whites the color of your dad’s jeans… uh, um. Moving on, right?
2nd Alternative To Fabric Softener
Another great option for fabric softener would be wool dryer balls in your dryer. – Some of these will last up to 1,000 loads before you have to replace them. You can add a few drops of essential oils to the balls if you wish to have a fragrance and toss them in the dryer with your laundry. They also help your clothes to dry sooner. Do not use if you have a wool allergy.
3rd Alternative To Fabric Softener
Add a tablespoon or two of baking soda to your wash load during the rinse cycle and it will help to make your clothes soft and nice. This can only be done to a top loading machine because of the need to access the rinse cycle. You could add it to water but I am not sure if it would not settle in the fabric softener slot and not come out for the cycle.
