Easy Homemade Crusty Bread
This easy crusty bread recipe was born quite a while ago when I tried out a no-knead crusty bread recipe, but I just wasn’t satisfied with the results or the taste. So after lots of tweaking and testing this delicious and this oh so easy crusty bread was the result and quickly became a favorite with the family.
It’s perfect for baking ahead for dinner parties and holds up well for sandwiches, and best of all just takes a few simple ingredients to make a really great bread loaf. This recipe does require an overnight rise, so it’s great to make well ahead of when you need it so you’ll have a rustic loaf of bread ready to bake when you need it.

Easy Crusty Bread Recipe
To make this easy crusty bread recipe you will need a few things
Equipment:
- Stand Mixer with a dough hook, or Large mixing bowl
- Cast iron Dutch oven or ceramic Dutch oven
- Measuring cup and spoons
- Wire rack
- Plastic wrap or tea towel
- Sharp knife or lame
- Apron
- Hot pan holders
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups water (you can substitute for buttermilk or whole milk)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 ¾ teaspoon Himalayan pink salt
1 teaspoon raw sugar or whatever sugar you have
½ teaspoon active dry yeast
Directions:
Make the dough: In the bowl of your mixer or a large bowl pour water. Add flour, salt, sugar, and yeast together. Mix on low or use a dough whisk or wooden spoon mix it until well incorporated and forms a dough ball.
Bread rise: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit on your counter in a warm place or inside your unheated oven for 12 to 24 hours.
Preheat your oven: Preheat oven to 450°F. Add your Dutch oven to the oven as it’s heating and heat it as well until it’s at 450°F. Usually when the oven is done preheating your pot should be hot enough as well. Remove the pot from the oven and remove the lid from it.
Shape the dough: Dampen your hands really well and also sprinkle a little flour over the dough. Gently remove the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roughly shape it into a ball and place it on a piece of parchment paper seam side down.
Score the dough gently with your desired pattern or design. Using oven mitts remove your Dutch oven from the oven and place your dough in the pan. Place the lid back on the Dutch oven and return to the oven.
Baking Time: Bake your easy crusty bread recipe for 30 minutes with the lid on, after the time is up remove the lid and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Remove the bread from the pot, it should fall out easily. Let cool completely before slicing into it and serving.
