Fall Creek Falls State Park

Spread the love

This beautiful park located in east Tennessee is the home to the highest waterfall in eastern America. Cascading 256 feet. We drove up to spend the day last Saturday- and left wishing we could spend a week. It is so beautiful! Seriously, it is amazing! The water was really low, which made it perfect for wading. Lots of the rocks at the top of one of the falls were dry so we were able to walk all the way up to the very edge of the waterfall and sit with our feet in the water and enjoy the breathtaking view while rainbows danced through the mist below. It was so peaceful listening to the roar of the cascading water.

Have you ever been spit in the eye by a waterfall? It is truly one of the most amazing experiences! I will never know how one can stand in the presence of such an amazing sight and deny the existence of God… Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. Isaiah 40:26

We were really sad to leave Cane Creek Falls- but the rest of the park called, and after a quick trip across one of the suspension bridges it was back to the car for the 4 miles or so drive to Fall Creek Falls and Piney Creek Falls.

We stopped at buzzard roost for a bit to enjoy the beautiful view from the platform. Mrs. Cottage and Brianna stayed up on the platform while Mr. Cottage and I hiked down the small trail to the rock lookout perched high above the cannon below. The sound of the wind through the trees far below like wind chimes. It was so peaceful, I couldn’t help imagine how stunning this perch would be at sunrise… maybe one day I will find out.

After Piney Creek Falls we decided to head home so that we could get through the narrow winding  part of the road with steep cliffs on the side before dark. We had such a great time, I can’t wait until we go back- with swimming gear! And maybe a picnic.

It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters. It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert. It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever-flowing rivers. The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter. Psalm 74:13-17

Have you ever been to Fall Creek Falls State Park?
