God came for you, but what does that mean?
It happened long long ago. Many have forgotten
Some never knew.
But it is the greatest event in history.
It happened one busy night when the world was all a bustle.
There is so much to do when this season rolls around- Christmas parades, lights to see, gifts to buy, church plays, Christmas parties, and family commitments. Our calendars soon grow to overflowing.
It’s easy to get caught up in the stuff and miss the most important thing- or worse yet grow apathetic.
God Came For You – A Baby In A Manger
A baby in a manger grows cliche. Maybe just another story like the jolly old elf and Frosty the Snowman. We smile at the cashier and say the same things we’ve said so many times before but our hearts, our hearts have stopped standing in awe of that child.

God Came For You – The Creator
Pause for just a moment with me and look up at the bright stars in the heavens, count them with me if you can. Stand in awe of the multitude, do you feel small? Almost invisible beneath so many? Look up at those twinkling stars overhead and consider that the same God who placed those stars and set the planets on their path, the same God that spoke those flecks of light into existence at the beginning of time with just a word came down to earth for you.
God Came For You – To Do What We Could Not
He came innocent, to take your place and mine… How crazy is that? What is Christmas? It’s the God of the universe coming to earth as a child, a babe in a manger absolutely blameless to meet us right where we are. He came to break the chains that have held us in bondage, to heal what no human can heal, to whisper words of life to the deadest parts of our souls. God came knowing that to save us meant He had to die an excruciating death, that we’d reject Him, that even if we accepted Him we’d fall short and mess up – and yet God came for you. This is Christmas.
God Came For You – To Save The Broken
What is Christmas? It’s God recklessly coming down to earth loving us just as we are- broken, dirty, beyond repair, guilty. Heedlessly He came in the most audacious way, knowing… knowing that we would reject him and send Him to the cross.
You and me? We held that whip, we held the nails, the hammer, we hung Him to that cross. The one who’d spoken the stars into existence, the one who had come down find us- He had the power to get off that cross, to prevent it from ever happening, He could have walked away, left us wallowing in our self-made misery, but instead He went willingly, love kept Him on that cross. Emanuel, God with us, not the uncaring creator who started time and left us to sort it all out. But the God that walks with us, who never changes, who is beside us on every hill and every valley. The God who is with us in the flames, caring, guiding, and faithful.
God Came For You – Why Is Christmas Important?
Reckless God for you, came down to earth, to write a love story across the fabric of time, remember that. Remember that He came to seek you out, to find you right where you are. What is Christmas? This, this is what Christmas is. This is why Christmas is important.
What Is Christmas Really About?
What is Christmas? This… this is what Christmas is really about. Not the decorations, or the lights. The plays or family gatherings. A baby in a manger, coming to save you. Remember that this Christmas, open your heart, and let Him fill the empty place, run into His embrace, let Him stitch together the broken places with Himself. Draw near and let Him take the heavy burdens. Come and stand in awe again of your savior who came to meet you right where you are.
