Pear Butter Recipe
Supplies:
- Pan
- Corer
- Mandoline
- Measuring Cups
- Tea Ball
- Spoon
- Emersion Blender
- 1/2 pint jars
- Lids and rings
- Boiling Water Canner
(optional)
Ingredients:
4 lbs of Fresh Pears (8 Cups Sliced) washed, stemmed and cored.
2 -4 Cups Raw Sugar
2 Cups of water
1 Cinnamon Stick
3 Cloves
3 Whole Allspice
Directions:
Wash, remove stem, core and slice pears.
Place pears in a medium-large pan with water, cinnamon, and a tea ball filled with allspice, cloves and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until pears break down.
Remove cinnamon stick and tea ball.
Use an emersion blender to blend the pears until smooth.
Combine pear puree with sugar, and allow the pear butter to simmer until it thickens. The pear butter will be thick enough when a butter on a spoon doesn’t slide off when turned upside down.
How To Can Pear Butter
Spoon hot pear butter into hot sterile half-pint jars leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
Use a paper towel or cloth to dry the rim of the jar.
Place lids and rings on top.
Process jars in a boiling-water canner for 10 minutes.
Remove jars from water, and allow to cool on thick towels for 25 hours.
Store jars in a cool dark place until you use them.

Yum! I love apple butter but I have never tried pear butter, though I’m sure it tastes just as good as apple butter. If I can get my hands on some pears I will have to give this one a try.
